95404988A former Rector of the Ghana Institute of Management Public Administration, GIMPA, Prof. Stephen Adei has accused President Mahama of practicing nepotism.

He contends that, per his research findings one out of every four of the President’s appointments come from his area of origin.

This practice, he believes, will not augur well for national cohesion, especially when Ghana is a unitary state.

Speaking at Prempeh Colleges’ Pearson Osae lectures,Prof Adei said the practice must stop immediately.

“One of the things going on which is totally unacceptable is about why one out of every four public sector appointment comes from the President’s area of origin. That is totally unacceptable because we are a unified country, we are a country whereby if you take any major group, whether Gas, Ashantis or Ewes you can form a cabinet from it….”

Prof Stephen Adei also expressed worry about how government is implementing the Free Day Senior High Schools policy.

According to him, even though the policy is a good intitiave , its implementation has been deficient in aspects of proximity to the undeserved school children as well as teacher motivation.

“…You can’t build day schools in the village without teachers’ accommodation. You need smaller secondary schools with laboratories, teachers bungalows…

He therefore urged government to take another look at the policy before rolling out all the promised two hundred schools.
