The Finance Minister requested Parliament for the stated amount in the supplementary budget.

Speaker Doe Adjaho led the proceedings as the house approved the Supplementary budget.

Minority kick against budget

The Minority had raised concerns over the decision to ask for extra money, saying it will not address the critical challenges the country is battling with .

Member of the Finance Committee of Parliament, Kwaku Kwarteng questioned where the extra money will come from, considering that businesses are already suffering from the effects of high taxes and inadequate power supply.

He said government, after cutting expenditure in various sectors of the economy, has no justification to request for the extra money.

But the majority side maintained the money would help government meet its development targets for the rest of year.

Leading the House to approve the budget, the Speaker said “the motion is carried and accordingly the house hereby approves GHC 888, 230,387 as supplementary estimates for the 2016 financial year.”
